THE JOURNEY THROUGH NYC PRIVATE SCHOOLS (FROM A MOTHER’S VIEW)
We as a parents know the value of education – especially when it comes to raising our own children. For me, I know I wanted to offer my children more than what my parents did for us because I believe that every generation is supposed to get better than the last. The more we expose to our children I believe the more well- rounded adults they will become at lease that was our hope
Applying to the world of private school is truly a journey in itself and every parent should have a heads up on the process; it’s something I wish I had when our daughter was applying 17 years ago.
Here are the most basic ways to find what’s suitable for your family and child’s needs if you are interested in applying to private schools:
1. Do your research on coed schools vs single sex – write down your pros vs cons list based on your views and personal values.
2. Do your research on all the private schools listed in New York City– you need to know what each institution is offering because that is the only way you will know which one fits your family needs and personality.
3. Write down your questions, thoughts, and concerns for each schools and keep a journal for each school that you are interested in and that you have any contact with so that you can go back and reflect, as well as, compare notes after you have had your visits, parent interviews, playdates and completed your application. This will make the process less grueling on your mind.
I hope these few pointers will make your process a little smoother. To hear more about this journey please listen to my podcast Hedge Fund To Happiness where the next three podcast will be dedicated to my journey through private school from a mothers point of view.
